As I wait for a new saddle, I have stopped using my existing one, its just not worth hurting him, I want/need to keep him exercised, so would you either pop him on the walker at various degrees of speed on both rein, I don't mean him belting round, I like to start of slowly then when warmed up I increase the speed then repeat on the other rein, then finish off with a slow walk.

OR lunge him, or a mixture of both.

Would welcome your idea's

Thanks

We used to do both with the polo ponies, although i would say I would only walk and trot on a horse walker and not a fast trot either. It would be more fun for him with a bit of vairaty, what about long reining too?

I would do a mixture of both, simply because you can add variety to his lunge work (such as canter, medium trot, transitions, and move him off the circle) but he doesn't become sour by being lunged all the time.

Long reining is a much better idea than lunging. Its one of my bug bares as when else do you work a horse off one rein to that extent? It causes unnatural loading on limbs and head tilting. In longreining you promote better balence and can put alot more varity into a horses work, going out for "rides" work in the school, or even a quick blast. As for the horse walker personally i think they're alright, if not a little boring. Hope that helps
