I recently put up a Wanted Notice on another Forum and have been absolutely inundated with emails, I have a shortlist and am viewing ponies this weekend

I know that several people have bought horses/ponies from HHO members (myself included) and that there are often posts saying "Do you know of.......I am still looking for......." etc, etc.

So, do you think that if there was a "Horses Wanted" section it would be useful/used? I know advertising is not permitted but would this be acceptable? Something along the lines of (using my own request here):

14-15h chunky pony for Pony Club and FUN wanted, age/colour/breeding immaterial....blah, blah, blah

Just thought I'd get a general consensus of opinion and perhaps go to Admin with it.

yes i think it would be used a lot! or maybe just a Wanted forum, it would save us trying to do things discreetly .. :P

Ho hum.........forgot the HHO Wanteds pages

Back to creeping around with cleverly worded posts then.

Enfys, I would reserve judgement on whether these are great horses until you have seen them

. My experience of every owner who has answered my Wanted ads, are that they contact you because they think you are foolish and don't expect you to notice when you go to view said horse, that it only has 3 legs and the heaves.....

No, No great expectations Tia.

I specifically asked for chunky pony types that must go out alone, and go English (that phrase sounds odd). To be fair I did say age/colour/creed doesn't matter, so have had a lot of babies and tb (not so chunky
confused.gif
) types, also some brilliant sounding ponies for much more than I was willing to pay, like $8,000! Neither did I specify a price range (other than not silly money) as saying, for example, up to $4,000 is just asking to be shown a $1500 pony and still be asked 4K for it!

We are in no hurry, and are going with empty pockets and eyes wide open.

How about:

"very healthy 21 year old standardbred gelding, aprox. 15hh. Trained english/western pleasure, beginner safe, enjoys being ridden bareback and is great on roads alone or with company. GREAT FAMILY/BACKYARD HORSE!
Suitable for light pleasure riding, trail riding, once or twice a week.
$500 "

He is advertised with a picture on that site I mentioned to you.

Or this?

"has been used as a trail riding horse. Doesn't spook easy, loves the bush trails and road riding doesn't bother her. Needles, worming and hoffs up to date. Has been rode by beginners.
$1500. canadian firm "

Hoffs! All 3 of them no doubt!

Now, I am dead against letting anything I am selling out on trial (after one disappeared
mad.gif
) but what do people do over here, is it done at all do you know?

LOL!!

No it is not usual for people to allow a trial period over here. I did have one with one horse....but only because the seller was just down the road from me AND I had already bought 2 horses from her previously...but no, generally people will not let you trial.

My trial was supposed to be for a week...however I cut it short after 2 days as after 2 rides I knew the horse was perfect.

It is frustrating you know, because I have a number of horses who fit your description perfectly; however I need them for the Summer

.

PS. If you ever find ones up here and you need someone to go and do a preliminary check - just shout, I'd be happy to check them out for you.....and I promise I won't buy them from under you, LOL!!

I have all the horses I need so no fears of that happening.

Tia, thanks, the offer of checking something out for me if need be is really kind, and if you said "yay" or "nay" I wouldn't be left thinking, "but would it have been right?"

I am dead sure you have some with you that would be exactly what I want, frustrating indeed.
I am lusting after your Sureshot, I think he's stunning.

Well I sold a horse through this forum. Someone came on describing a horse that sounded like Jack. I hadn't fully decided to sell him at the time but we emailed each other and both were honest. It worked amazingly well. Jack has a first class home and they have a horse that suits them down to the ground. Jacks new family and I have stayed in touch and become friends.Perhaps the key is honesty on both sides so beware until you actually see the horse.

Oh you know, Sureshot would be absolutely perfect. He is such a good guy. He will be for sale later in the year and if you are still interested then you'll just have to come up for the weekend and have a test-run
smile.gif
. I'm pretty sure he will sell quickly as he will be quite inexpensive and he is flashy to look at but is very very quiet and obedient.

In the meantime, I'll keep my eye open for something like him for you.

I guess it is only polite to offer my services too - tho I am not in Tia's league!!! We really need to sort up a time for you to come on over and meet up again too - how's the licence quest going

? There are some seriously odd horses for sale around these parts - old horses fetch silly money, and conformation doesn't seem nearly as relevant as in the UK to people. One of the liveries where I was riding last year was for sale, I'd seen the horse ridden, knew roughly how old, and then almost fell over as I found out how much - let's just say there was an extra 0! However, the reverse is also true, some people just don't realise what they have got potential / breeding wise!
