ive gone up this morning and gave him his medication from vet hes on
bute
Norodine antibiotics
Flamazine(cream)

i gave his supplement (cortaflex) and meds above (not cream obviously) in his feed with garlic granules, chaff and pasture mix. feed was wet and he ate some but then refused to eat rest i though garlic would hide medication but obviously not any ideas how i can get him to eat it? he normally eats suppliment/garlic and occasional bute fine.

I 2nd the syringe, we use a large 60ml with a large end (when I worked in hospitals known as a bladder syringe). Our vets are more than happy to supply them.
Always find noradrine is difficult to disolve so tend to use luke warm water, usually about 100mls and spend ages stirring it up to get it to disolve. When syringing it into horses mouth lift its head up as high as you can and gently stroke it throat to get it to swallow, can save geeting a noreadrine shower!

Mix feed nice and sloppy, scoop out a small amount and add meds to it. Serve medicated feed only in his usual feed bowl. He will take a big mouthful and pull very hurt faces. Mix in half of rest of untainted feed and re-present. Horse will eat feed with great relief. Feed the remianing feed when he's finished the medicated stuff.

I had this problem recently too, very messy but mixed it with apple juice and syringed it in. You have to get syringe right at back of empty mouth or you will be wearing it!!

Bute is very bitter tasting, my mare won't eat it, so whenever she needs pain relief/anti-inflamatories I ask for Danilon, which she wolfs down! It may be just the bute that your horse is objecting to, could you try Danilon instead of bute and keep with the antibiotics????

Having similar prob with my mare but with Danilon!! Found she will eat it all up by putting meds in Allen and Page Herbal coarse mix as it is very strong smelling but nice. Previously syringing it in which wasn't that easy either.

NAF mint works with two horses at our yard who are on various medications...maybe someone who uses it could let you have a little to try before you buy a tub? It's the best £5.95 I've spent in ages!
