Just curious if anyone has had a horse with a broken rib?

How did it effect their movement? Did they recover fully? How long did it take?

Many thanks x

We're they front or back ribs (hope that makes sense!)?

Did it cause them to be 'wonky' whilst they were mending?

Mine had a fractured rib. Couldn't bend one way, and was generally stressed and uncomfortable. Took around three months to heal. Had four months off work. Now he's back in work and doing brilliant so doesn't seem to have effected him, however it did take some time for him to realise it didn't hurt and forget the pain.

Hi Charla - so did he hold himself funny? Did you have him out or stabled?

My old boy seems to have cracked a rib falling onto a metal water trough and now won't turn left (the cracked rib is on offside towards the back). He stands awkwardly with his off hind out at an angle and gets tired after a day out so is coming in at night. Does this sound about right?

He did hold himself oddly and almost looked lame, could just about tell. It caused him to have sore points elsewhere as he was over using one side to compensate for the other so once he was healed he had a lot of Physio. Vet said to stable at the start 24/7 and then mine was turned out for short periods, gradually increasing. It does sound similar so quite possibly. Poor boy, I wish him a speedy recovery x
