well he just has very runny eyes....cant wear a face mask due to causing lumps under his chin - sensitive skin!! so I have bought him a snuggy hood which has tassles to keep the flies away and covers his whole neck and ears....works wonders but he seems to have inflammed eyes ...?

You really do need to get a mask on, the Legacy one is wonderfully padded round the poll and the nose and my girl can weat hers 24/7 without a problem.

Piriton can work but the best remedy i have found is Equus Health Pollen tabs, Weleda do them as well, 2 in the morning and 2 at night.

Wash the eyes twice a day religiously with cold water and a clean cloth every time, you need to get the pollen out and keep it out for neddy to be comfortable. Windy days like today are the worst and because he is sensitive to the pollen, the sun will irritate as well as the eyes are inflamed and hot.

Rocky the cob I ride gets inflammed eyes and headshakes alot when there is pollen about. I just make sure that he is kept in all day (he also gets sunburn and hates suncream!). This seems to work a treat.
I can't use nosenets or field mask things as he just rips them off!

My husband has just seen a product on tv called HayMax (for humans) which is supposed to be a pollen blocker type of substance you rub round your nostrils, its had some fab write ups and I'm just wondering if it would work on our equines. Mine's a headshaker that seems to be triggered by pollen, I'm thinking of giving it a go. Our farmer has topped the nettles, grass and docks in our field today and he's just so bad this evening

Vaseline works just as well

Smear a bit just inside the nostrils and it will trap all the pollen. My TB has been diagnosed with a seasonal allergy. He has had a ventolin inhaler for the last week and is making an improvement. I did try and put vaseline round his nostrils too but ended up covering his entire nose and me

Also put vasaline round nostrils and eys as this will help capture pollen and stopn in being inhaled and entering eyes.. It really does work.

You need to get a mask on - have you tried the rambo ones they are really good

I have tried some haymax on my horse... hasnt cured it, but along with a number of other remedies has helped keep it under control
