Hi everyone im looking for just a little bit of advice. I have a 5 year old, 16HH, Dutch warmblood, who has always been quiet but recently i have noticed that his energy has decreased. I compete every week, only up to 1m. I can keep him in for a week with constant feeding and not putting him into the field, and when we go to a competition i can ride him for 10 minutes before he just goes dead. I have also noticed that his coat is very coarse once i have clipped him and it doesnt have much of shine. He currently gets fed redcell, pink powder, and garlic with chaff sugarbeet and course mix. We started feeding him redcell because we were advised that he might be slightly anaemic, hes had it for about 2 weeks now daily and i have not noticed any changes. Any help would be great.

No suggestions other than full bloods, and lose the garlic - it used to make my old mare lacklustre and there is evidence to suggest it can cause anaemia which goes against your feeding red cell. Hope you get some answers from blood tests.

Thanks guys i only really keep him in because it did used to make him slightly hyper when i did, he gets ridden every day so hes not just standing in :)

Sounds like anaemia, but could be anything, other factors causing that so I would get him blood tested. Very unusual for a Dutch warmblood to be quiet! Mine certainly never was! Hope he picks up.

Bloods, I have just cleared my whole yard of a liver virus where the only symptom was that one horse had a bad fall out of the blue, turned out 10 had a virus, no symptoms. Litres of Propell plus later they are clear
