Long story short.... bought horse from dealer....she had only been brought from ireland 2 months previously...he could tell me nothing...i should have known better but felt sorry for her, anyhow gt her home....very underweight and no condition so no work just gaining weight and ground work...she was brill.

started work and hacking she very very nervous alone ok in company

No bucking napping rearing etc altho once spooked quite on her toes but nt nasty.

anyway wrote a letter to previous owner and hoped. today had call from the man who bred and broke her she is out of fab stallion saracon hill and has hunted x country etc altho wasnt cut out for dressage or sj.( he said anything over 1.30 she waqsnt happy with) was hoping for 2 ft hahaha...but im so pleased to hear bout her past and so was her previous owner! Poor horse hadf been left in a field for a year previous to being brought to england so bless her she has been a star taking to work as gud as she has. Last owner said she was a superstar at hunting so we'll see.

Anyone wondering if they should contact previous owners ....its always worth a shot.

He seemed as happy as me in finding out where and what this horse was doing

im a very happy bunny at min x

That's lovely news. I think it's always nice to be able to be in a good relationship with your horse's previous owners. Do you think you will keep in touch and give them progress reports?

oh well done! We never had any luck when we tried this, the only one that did come back to us was talking about a different horse because ours had come with a false passport!! I think genuine owners, who actually cared about the horse, will always come back and be grateful to know what has happened to their horse after they sold it, it is the ones who have something to hide that like to disappear under a rock!

I really think it helps to know some 'genuine' history about a new horse, you know what you are dealing with. Your mare sounds lovely, I hope you have a long and happy relationship.

Hi
yes im def going to keep in touch.

It will be so much easier for both of us now i know what shes gone through lately and i now know what she will be capable of in the future.

I had been convinced she must have been nasty or had problems for her to have ended up in the condition she had then shipped off to dealer but turned out to be owner prob not horse prob.

Cant wait to get going with her now lol !!

We also bought a horse with no history (long story so won't bore you) I persevered with tracking her microchip number and found out her breeding which was really fantastic - however I wish I could have found out about her 'personal' life not just the paperwork. I know her previous owner who only had her for 3 months but not before that. Well done in tracking the previous owner and keeping in touch.

Just thought I would share with you that we too have an Irish mare by Saracen Hill. She is the most genuine horse in every way, successfully evented and a real trier. Sadly she is no longer competing but just about to go to stud. Best of luck with your mare.

Awww well done :) I wish I knew something about ladys past :/ I got her from a dealer and they lied about alot of stuff :( I wish I got the contact details for the previous owners so I could find out about her history...

oh 625 thts great to hear shes beginning to trust me now and her confidence is getting much better, she tries hard to please and its so much nicer now i know what im dealing with :)
