It's probably been asked 100 times already but my boy was diagnosed with grade 2/3 pyloric ulcers in December but they've cleared up with a treatememt of gastroguard, I'm wondering what you all feed your horses to prevent ulcers aldo do you soak your hay?
Currently my boy is out during the day in at night, has breakfast (normally a lunch) and dinner, he has 1/2-3/4 scoop of alfalfa plus oil, 1/2 ulsakind nuts and 1/2 scoop fibre mash I also put a tablespoon of limestone powder a tablespoon of sodium bicarb and 2 teaspoons of magnesium oxide and ad lib dry hay, is there any changes I should make, I'm very new to ulcer management thanks ???

My mare had stage 2/3 pyloric and glandular ulcers around the same time and she's a really fussy eater, really fussy.
I think what your feeding sounds pretty good to me, but I am no expert! The only thing I might look at would be the Ulsakind, I'm on a few Ulcer related Facebook group pages and they are not fans, the general rule is to avoid pelleted feeds if you can, the aim is to avoid high starch and sugar content I believe, oh and if you feed chaff, avoid anything with chopped straw in it.

However, my mare is really fussy and doesn't read Facebook :) so I had to compromise with her to get her to eat.
She's recently started her spring/summer routine which is in for a few hours a day on hay, out the rest of the time. She gets 2 feed a day of:

Pink Mash
Thunderbrooks Herbal Chaff (or Agrobs)
handful Baileys Fibre Plus Nuggets
Magnesium Oxide
Vitamin and Mineral Supplement
Herbal mix for moody mares

She was on a really expensive supplement called Rite Trak during ulcer treatment, wouldn't eat it, also wouldn't eat Gastri-Aid, but her vit and mineral supplement has brewers yeast in it

The other tip I learned was to feed a bowl of chaff or mash before riding to keep the stomach acide from splashing about. Good luck, hope everything continues to go in the right direction for you both

Friends horse has had horrific ulcers, they never seemed to improve and gradually got worse, but shes finally got on top of them.
We tend to soak his hay as hes in at night as well, just to make sure hes getting plenty of fluid, softens it as well, we're particularly careful turning him out for long periods on wet grass as he seems to have quite a reaction to it and gets very grumpy.
We also found that cutting out alfa in his feed helped massively after some valuable info from our physio of research that had been done.
Have since heard that allot of horses actually do better when taken of the alfa despite most vets advise to feed it. Its a difficult one because allot of horses respond differently to different things, low starch low sugar and grain free you should be fine. also have you tried cutting out the linseed, out of interest

I’ve had great success with Protexin Acid Ease on my mare. She’s also incredibly fussy and doesn’t eat the feeds I’d choose for her. This is a happy compromise and means her diet doesn’t affect her.
