Horse won’t leave herd

Looking for help/ advice. I have had my gelding 3 years and am mainly a happy hacker. Have always been able to hack him on my own and he’s been fab and very happy to do so. Spring time he moved into a new field and all same herd but he’s slowly started to get anxious leaving the herd. Started with him neighing leaving the field/yard and has steadily progressed to him abs planting his feet, walking backwards. Sometimes this can be downright dangerous if I’m near a road. Noe worst is I can’t actually get him out the yard or even for a walk in hand He seems abs anxious if he has to leave the herd at all. Herd have become really close. Always grazing stuck to each other but no one else having the problems I’m having. I can’t understand how it’s gone do wrong in 3 months.

I'm having the same problems so have booked a behaviour consultant to come out on Saturday as I want to get down to the bare roots cause of it. I feel your pain!! Has he had all of the usual checks...back, saddle, teeth etc??

Might not be at all related but I find my mare gets more attached to other horses when she’s in season? Is he in with mares or other geldings?

Yes he has had teeth and back done recently. I’m sure it’s not a pain thing as I can ride him in the school next to his field no issue. He used to sometimes back up trying to leave yard and I’d give him hell and we’d be fine. A few weeks ago he tried it again and this time giving him hell hasn’t worked and we ate now going from bad to worse
