Has anyone had to use a horsebox breakdown or recovery service, I need to take one out, but don't know who to pick and dread being left at the side of the road with my horse!! They all sound quite good, but I would like to hear from someone who has actually used one!!! :

Oddly enough we had bad experiences with Antony Evans. I now use British Equestrian Insurance - Red Star Policy (Tonbridge Kent). They have proved to be better.

NFU do a roadside rescue - I'm not sure if it is just for their insurance customers but our lorry costs £126 per year for the full recovery service.

I did have the unfortunate experience of having to get them out and I was incredibly impressed. The service is split into two bits - lorry repair and horse rescue. The lorry repair person rang to say they would be with me in a hour which they were. A few mins later the horse rescue people rang to ask if I was okay, safe etc. They continued to ring at regular intervals to see if we were all okay and reassured me they would come out to collect us/horse/lorry if the repair couldnt be carried out.

The repair bloke got it started but I felt very reassured throughout. We were stranded in a showground so my horse stood and ate hay at the side of the box but if we had been on a road and things she was getting difficult I would have received their assistance sooner.

Thanks I will give them a ring I also know someone who had a bad time with AE so I was hoping to find some feed back from different company, they all sound good until you have to use them!

I use SEIB - never actually had to use them (touch wood) but it's £90 a year for home start too and their insurance is really good value too.
