Last year I took the plunge and bought a 7.5 ron box. Took out breakdown insurance with one of the market leaders. Wanting to cover all eventualities took out the top of the range covering ‘all locations’.

One wet night we were off for an evening event, wouldn’t start. Thinking I was covered called them out and now have a bill almost as much as the annual premium. Not covered for within a mile of base.

So having had my fingers badly burnt a few things spring to mind;

1) Can you get ‘homestart’ for boxes?
2) If you cant what do people do? Find a local truck garage?

Any advice gratefully received !

Breakdown cover from Julie Andrews includes homestart. About £105 pa for 3.5t

Did you tell them thats your base, it would be better to say you keep it at home and take it to the stables to use it. They don't know if that is where you keep your horse. Unless your stables are at your home?

I've just took out insurance and breakdown cover with shearwater, the breakdown includes home start and is with equine rescue and was only £140.

Thanks folks,

need to look at the small print better, seem to be enough to be enough around how do include it. Meantime I'll have find a good local guy just in case!

I would ask first of all what ELSE doesn't your current breakdown recovery covers????

You do not want to find yourself broken down on a motor way with your recovery chucking your horse in your broken lorry on the back of their wrecker towing it at 60 odd miles an hour dangling at an angle and all 'legal' supposedly as you have signed their disclaimer!

Read and double read the small print.

Just do a search on here for the worst culprit on here, much cheapness company.

We are another Equine Rescue Services. All the way. Would not change and have called them out approx 2 times in ten years and twice for tyres. Fabulous service.
