I'm looking to upgrade my horsebox. Non-negotiables are 2 horse carrying 2 tonnes + payload, either front or rear facing, basic living. And I want a decent mechanically sound wagon with a good horsebox build.
I've been looking around at 5.5 tonne and 6.5 tonne lorries, as they offer the payload I need and I can get a newer chassis for the price.
Now, I've finally been out to see one, nearly finished new build on a 5.5 tonne Renault Mascott 03 plate. Just tidying bits and pieces to finish off (eg put tie rings on). Used to be a "pop" delivery wagon!
Its done 192k kilometres, but my mechanic says no problem with that. 6 speed gearbox that I can reach(!), cd player, electric windows, cctv fitted. 12 months mot, 12 months guarantee. Weight certificate.
Cut through to small day living, well fitted out, with luton. Sliding window through to horses who travel rear facing.
Glassonite body, ramp that won't kill me, and a nice slope on it. Bright airy horse area, 8 ft 3 height, good, solid well padded partition with rubber skirt. Horses chest can lean against rear wall, head goes over the rear tack lockers. No danger of them trying to jump out as nowhere for them to go. Lighting and air vents. Decent tack locker at the back.
Drives well, took it for a good half hour down a very bumpy local road, didn't feel the bumps as much as in mine and then realised I was going a good 15mph more than would with ned on board so that was good.
Speed limited though.
£17k, well respected builder who's wagons always resell at a good price.
You'll probably guess I love it, but its the 1st one I've seen. But it'll be ready in a week and I have a buyer for my old one!
What do you think?
