Horsebox Dilemma...

I've been on a long hunt for a 7.5t box... I've now found two:
Box 1:
Beautiful, low mileage, immacualte inside and out but no luton (isnt really a problem for me but will be selling in three years and think one with a luton would sell better?), and has lots of space for the horses and a lovely living. M reg. its up to budget
Box 2:
Horse area is really nice- living is empty(wouldn't mind doing it up myself), box has a luton, and the thing thats really tempting me is it has a aluminium floor and also it needs painting so i could get it sprayed purple!!! or another lovely colour! but its a J reg so is older

also its quite long.. about 25/26 ft.
its below budget so could spruce it up.

I dont know which one to go for...

any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I think it would be much more fun to spruce up the older one! You could even have a logo with your horses names designed for the side

I would get a mechanic I trust to look both over and buy the one that is that has the best chasis, otherwise you could be spending a fortune fixing it every time it breaks down.
 
I would have someone look at them and I would also weigh both and see how much payload they have - go for the lightest.
 
Buying an old lorry will become a money pit, buy a transit campervan and a horsebox trailer, at least you will use the van during the week.
 
If it has no Luton then the cab probably still can be tilted which can potentially save you a fortune in mechanics fees and eases roadside repairs and recovery.

An aluminium floor can also rot especially if the mebrane between the supporting structure and aluminium floor was not installed correctly or is breaking down leading to galvanic action and corrosion which can cause the floor to drop down.

As above also check unladen weight of each vehicle to check that they will not go overweight once they are loaded up.

What is manufacturer/model of each chassis cab?
 
Oh i didnt know aluminium floors could rot! would you say wooden floors are better? they are both Ford Iveco's. thanks for all your help!
 
and will definately be getting a mechanic to look over them both- and will check the payload as the horses are chunky!
also box 2 only has around 7ft head room- dont think that would be enough for my big girl!
 
They might both be fords, but I am guessing that the J reg is an 813 and the M reg is a 75E15?

In which case I wouldn't touch the 813 as thats the old cargos and parts are becoming hard to find for them, so the 75E15 will be a better investment.
