Horsebox dilemma!

After countless years my lovely hubby has finally said I can have a horsebox :)

Then I started to research, my original intention being to have a 3.5 tonne one, handy and economical. Then I read about payloads and horses going over the breast bar. Some of the 3.5 boxes look good - eg. Regent, Marlborough Hunter, Chaigley. My budget is £15 to 20k. But I have two horses, a substantial 15.2 sec D, around 620 and a TB, around 550. Over the payload BUT, here's the first dilemma: the TB is 27 and retired so he would rarely travel apart from an occasional outing to the Ayres to be led next to my mare which he loves, and occasional transporting the 4 miles from my rented grazing to stables and paddock at home. And being realistic, at some point ( which I dread as I've had him for over 18 years) I will have only one horse to transport anywhere.

Second dilemma is there's a lovely Kevin Parker box available locally. 8 ft x 20 ft, 5 tonne or so unladen and will be fully serviced, plated and taxed before I buy it. Downside is fuel consumption, annual plating and extra space required especially negotiating my bendy drive - I've already had the front gutters off with the Ifor Williams!

Thoughts, recommendations, advice would be much appreciated. Oh, and I'm on the Isle of Man where 3.5 tonners are like hen's teeth so would need to source one in the UK.

If you ever intend travelling your two horses together then you will need a larger vehicle with a sufficient payload of at least 2 tons.
If you are only travelling one horse then you will need a payload of at least 1.1 tons.
From the above you can work backwards!
If you purchase a truck then ensure that the cab can be fully tilted for servicing or if it breakdown on the road.

If you have the right licence you could look for a 4.5T / 5T. They're still quite small but should have enouygh payload to carry the two horses. Equitrek do the 3.5T and the 5T (I think it's 5T anyway)
You get used to driving them though - we have always had a 7.5T lorry to carry two horses and once to get used to the size it's just 2nd nature. You wouldn't catch me driving a car and trailer though - well, I could probably just about do it going forwards! :D

Look at boss horse boxes, you can have a 3.5 uprated to 3.9 , this would give pay load of about 1700 kg...
I have one they are super, they will build to your needs.. And budget.
