Somewhat Off The Way

I have a 3.5t converted van horsebox and would like some tips on how best to clean the floor for longevity please. The top layer is rubber matting directly onto a gel coat.
My questions are:
- do you put down straw/ shavings/ sawdust when travelling?
- do you wash the flooring with just water or do you use some kind of soap/ disinfectant?
- do you just clean the mats or do you lift the mats and clean the gel coat underneath too? If so, what do you use?
Thanks in advance and sorry if it's been done to death!
