Horsebox Insurance

I got a good quote from Shearwater (insurance and breakdown). Haven't needed them yet, so can't say what they are like making a claim, but very friendly and competitively priced.

We are with Shearwater. We had to claim in for our horsebox as the chassis ended up under water in storm Desmond. Very simple and easy to deal with the insurance provider through them (they are a broker). They ended up writing it off, paid out full value minus excess no debate or issue at all. Took about 6 weeks from claim being sent in to pay out the claims advisor at Shearwater was very friendly, helpful and supportive. They have also managed to find us a quote this year with no exclusions for flooding or increase in premium.

Another with shearwater who also provide breakdown cover where they send out horsebox when recovering (if safe to unload) rather than putting front on low loader like some companies. Reasonable price also. Not had to use either

NFU have been great and their breakdown service accident. We had a horrible experience breaking down when insured with SEIB, poor pony was in transit for 21 hours due to the incompetence of the company that they contracted to do their breakdown service and we received very little in the way of compensation although I had to arrange our own recovery in the end and was considerably out of pocket - I understand they have changed the company they use since then.

Thanks all for responses. Have decided to go with Shearwater for insurance and also done the breakdown and rescue through them as they use Equine Rescue Services who I have heard good things about.

I am with them, aspnd used the break down three times with one of my previous lorries. They were very good, apart from one time when they recovered the lorry quickly, but said it wold take about 5 hours for the horses to be taken home. As we weren't far away from home, I arranged for a friend to collect us instead as the horses were stuck on a grass verge (luckily, a wide one with lots of grass so horses weren't worried!)by a main road.

I have just had my renewal through from Anthony Evans, so I got a quote from Shearwater to compare. Shearwater are a wacking £121 dearer! But their recovery quote (like for like, AE do offer replacement horsebox if you pay for that level of cover) is £30 cheaper. I'll be staying with Anthony Evans. Luckily I have so far not needed to claim.

This has probably been done before, but who do you recommend getting horsebox insurance through? Thanks in advance.

SEIB

I had quotes from KBIS but therei small print was so bad I went back to SEIB wont use anyone else.

oops just realized I have already replied in this thread

I'm with Shearwaters and previously with NFU. Not had to claim on the insurance but used the breakdown service on both. Both use Equine Rescue Service but for some reason with Shearwater it includes homestart and NFU it didn't or at least didn't previously.

I looked at Anthony Evans but at that time they didn't offer alternative transport for the horses if I broke down but would tow.
