Horsebox internal height question

Well according to Bateson Trailers their Deauville & Ascot trailers are big enough for 17h horses. Their internal height is 7'03", so 7'03" minimum I would imagine, but go for the tallest you can

I personally wouldn't go lower than 7'6" for regular or long journeys. You also have to consider how long horse will be standing in the box at comps.

NEXT QUESTION -is it possible to have a box height extended? Its the type that has a plastic curved roof..

Anything is possible. However, the cost would probably mean it was better to just buy a bigger box

You should be fine with a height of 7ft 6in. We are having one built at the moment by Priory Stud for our big heavy horse and the height is 7ft 7in and the roof area is padded. The other thing is the width of the box if your horse is to travel herringbone. Our mare was just not happy trying to turn round in a small space, so she will travel facing forwards in our new box with side and rear ramps. Priory Stud are also reinforcing everything to cope with a heavyweight! As for making a box higher - it is certainly possible and this is how the Arden boxes were built. It might well be pretty costly though - but if your box is perfect in every other way, it would be worth looking into.

I have just been looking at the 3.5t type boxes and a lot of them tend to be really small in the head height, and obviously having a 17hh horse means I need the height...
A girl at the yard has a 3.5t box which she travels her 17.1 in - I wonder if this is good luck finding a box with a high enough headroom - or wether they are out there?
Other than that Im not looking to spend a mint either! lol
