Hi I am buying a 3.5 ton horsebox and want to do horse transport with it. I am aware that I will need a license and was just wondering if anyone knows where I can get one and any costs involved

You don't need an operators licence for 3.5t vehicles. You will need SVS authority & have passed the defra welfare cert.

You vehicle will have to be type approved if transporting over 8 hours and of course your insurance will have to reflect hire & reward.

You vehicle is your selling tool along with your own reputation. So do not just go for cheap & cheerful.

Believe me, it is not what it seems. It is a lot of hard work, long hours and not at all easy money! Good luck

Thanks everyone. Think I have found the application form on DEFRA for approval and will also need a Certificate of Competance I think. Have emailed DEFRA and VOSA but they haven't replied yet
