I have seen a few subscription ones aimed at truckers but is there such a thing that doesnt cost the earth or is ideally free for a 3.5t horsebox? Does anyone use one and find it good?
I’ve always thought a horse box one would be a good idea as you can’t trust a SatNav not to take you down a narrow lane or tell you to do a u turn when you’re towing a trailer. However, I feel it’s a bit too nichey as a business idea.I have seen a few subscription ones aimed at truckers but is there such a thing that doesnt cost the earth or is ideally free for a 3.5t horsebox? Yes we are off to Shropshire at the weekend and often to Flint N Denbigh fun rides and some of the roads are a bit narrow!I’ve always thought a horse box one would be a good idea as you can’t trust a SatNav not to take you down a narrow lane or tell you to do a u turn when you’re towing a trailer. I have trouble making a call on my phone. This is well documented on this forum! There's quite a few around, mostly aimed at Motor homes and caravans, which gives the same results as they have the same dimension ranges and challenges. And the same lower speeds for estimating arrival. They vary in cost and accuracy though. I trialled CoPilot, it's a phone based app and had a free trial. But it took me down a narrow lane marked non-HGV (ok, I'm not a HGV) but I could see said lane took a 80 degree hairpin bend ahead so turned around and never used it again.
As mentioned above, I tend to plan ahead on Google maps, use street view to check out any suspect sections and then I don't deviate from my planned route (check you're on your expected routed and don't accept any reroutes).
I have been known to do that in the past, before the t'internet, when I had the 38footer. Some breed shows had rather tricky accesses!I usually drive my route first so I can check it’s safe for the 7.5 tonne!
