hi, quick question about horsebox miles per gallon.

How many tonnes is youre box,

what make and model,

what engine size,

how many miles to the gallon does it do. If you dont know exact miles per gallon, how much fuel would you expect to be putting in for say, a 100 mile round trip.

I have a 5.5 tonne renault dodge, and always thought it was really good on fuel, but have just seen an advert for a very similar lorry (same make model and tonne) claiming that it does 500 miles on £80 of fuel. And thats really got me thinking, either A) theyve exagerated there figures, or B) my lorry is actually quite expensive on fuel in comparison if the figures they gave are accurate

Would be great if you could fill in the questions above so I could compare :)

Thanks in advance x

When this came up a few weeks ago the general consensus was most did not really want to know!!
However in general expect 20-22 out of a 7.5t 10-14 out of an 18T a 3.5T you could expect around the 30 mark.

Daf lf 7.5 ton seems to average 20 mpg it weighs 5000 kg empty however I do have a press on driving style conditions and horses allowing!!, friend has merc atego that seems to do slighty better , mpg depends on lorry condition, shape of the front for wind resitance , driving style, conditons ie hilly or flat motorway and weight..

I only get about 20mpg our of mine, L reg 3.5t Leyland. It's 2.5litre I think.

But it's not helped by the fact I can't get the hang of the gears! And we do short trips which is not so good. It's very slow but it does the job :)

personaly Im not that concerned with the mpg of a lorry as its only used for a few thosand miles per year what it loses in deprication per year would be more of concern, however I feel pity for people who ride about in a gas guzzling 4x4 all the time so they are able to a trailer on the odd occasion!!!! what im trying to say a better way of looking at this is how much a year does it cost when you take everything into considderation not just fuel for your transport needs...
