How much does it cost to plate a horsebox???? Is this instead of an MOT and what does it involve???

Sorry if thick questions

l think its £49,and it involves basically an mot for a lorry only much more. They are very strict and will fail you on something as simple as a missing reflector! Either send your lorry for a pre mot check or risk just taking it and see what happens

Its called Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) l think if you look on dept of transport web site you might find some info, but l am not sure as l book my plating direct with my nearest test station

A VOSA is a government agency and not a private garage they can't rip you off by failing you lorry as they aren't going to make any money out of failing it - if that makes sense.

I always take mine to the station get it tested and then fix anything that needs doing. Which is usually nothing. If there is something minor wrong with it they will give you an advisory rather than a fail.

It is very stressful though, but you need to pull the girlie card and if they is anything wrong with your box you are allowed to fix it on site, so flutter you eyelids at the other lorry drivers and they will fix it for you.

The scariest bit is driving it over the pit. Best bit of advice is think pink/girlie the whole time and they let you get away with stuff or do it for you

Plan ahead - the wait here is about 8 weeks, so if you don't book it well in advance, you might end up grounded. (We forget every year, which results in a great deal of matrimonial disharmony about whose fault it was.)

i go down the flutter my eyelashes route as well. they seem to let you off with murder if you do! also i got the mechanic testy person to drive mine over the pit as i certainly wasnt going to do it!

DD you have no idea how much better you made me feel about driving over the pit, I hate doing it..

I tend to go girly too and last time the inspector drove it over for me..
They were great and allowed me to check my floor by putting a hard hat on and going underneath in the inspection chamber.
It's a bit daunting the first time, listening to the disembodied voice saying "Brakes on! Brakes off, hard on the accellerator etc" but once you have done it it's fine.
Make sure your lorry is clean (we power wash the underneath), and things like your diesel cap lock and fit. They check seatbelts if they are fitted, plus all the usual stuff as in a car.
