Hi guys

I'm after a 7.5 ton lorry and I've seen one advertised which was a 13 ton which has been downrated to 7.5 ton - what does this mean in reality? Is it likely to have a high unladen weight because of this?

Thanks!

and they tend to be more expensive to run, plus you are limited with taco rules and do have extra forms to fill in at plating. But on good note they tend to be less thrassed as 7.5tonners

hi Charlie76

Small budget of up to £8000, I'm looking for anything except a Ford Cargo, as new as possible (although I'm realistic about the budget) and must have living with room for sleeping as we compete away a lot. 2 horses, one 15hh lightweight, one 15.3hh middleweight

Thanks

Not in the right bracket I'm afraid. Good Luck though!

ETA mine is less than 5.5 tonnes unlaiden with a full living if that helps.

It's what is shown on the current 'Ministry Plate' that is important. Not what the vehicle was manufactured as.

If it was built as a 13 tonnes vehicle and 'downplated' to 7.5 tonnes, then it will be exempt tacho provided that it is used for the non commercial carriage of goods.

After it has been through it's first test as a 7.5 t, there will be no more forms than if it were manufactured as a 7.5t.

As others have said; beware the unladen weight. Have seen one with mother, moms' mate, 3 eight year old kids and two small ponies go over a weighbridge and it was two tonnes over the permitted 7.5 t, not a good day for them.
