Does anyone on here have a private registration on their horsebox?

Did anyone transfer the new registration across when the box was untaxed?
How long did it take to get your V5 back?

I'm starting to think I'm going to have to MOT and tax before I change the registration
As usual, the DVLA website has been totally unhelpful

the vehicle needs to be both taxed and plated(MOT'd) before you transfer your PP from the Donor vehicle to your current vehicle.

if the Donor vehicle wasnt SORN then that vehicle needs to be taxed before the number plate can be transfered

The plate hasn't been on another vehicle yet - does this ^^ still apply?

When you transfer a registration plate over to a horsebox you don't just have to deal with DVLA you have to deal with VOSA as well. DVLA & VOSA don't talk to each other so you need to notify both of them. You will need to fill out a form VTG10 (Notifiable Alteration form) that is available at any Vehicle & Services Operator Agency Test Station. Send it along with a copy of your existing Plating Certificate, a copy of the new registration Certificate (V5C) and fee (the fee at present is £27.00), to VOSA, 91-92 The Strand, Swansea, SA1 2DH for amendment & authentication.

You can also download a blank form from this link:-

I know the above is correct because I've just had to go through this as my lorry used to have a cherished number & it was changed over to a new registration before I bought it 3 years ago. I have had the lorry tested 3 times & this year VOSA have realised that they have no record of my lorry registration & still have it on the previous cherished number. The previous owner never bothered sending in the VTG10 form so I've had to do it all. If you have any difficulties filling in the form, although it's fairly simple ask at your Testing Station & they will assist. :)
