I have a 1993 3.5t Renault Master conversion with a leaky roof! This has only just started since the snow came and i think the settled snow has been a bit to heavy for the badly fitted roof

This it may mean the whole roof will need to be replaced, the metal part and the lining between the roof and the horse area.

Im making some enquries with some repair garages in the the area but was wondering if anyone else has had a similiar problem and would have a rough idea of cost to fit a new metal roof? I have no idea if it would be £000's or £0000's!!

Thanks pixi, this was another option we thought about to stop the leaks as it mainly coming from the roof vent and then collecting between the roof and horse comparment roof so we could silicone around the vent. But the snow has caused the roof to dent in areas and water is collecting in areas on top and not able to drain away, this should be ok is the summer as would dry quickly but i cant cover it in the winter and worried if further snow would do further damage

We were going to try and lift the dents with a suction up but couldnt actually get onto the roof above the dents to lift them!
 
I am in the middle of completely rebuilding my 7.5 tonne lorry and have, as one of many jobs, to replace my roof. The options are these: Replace the roof with metal sheets and ply underneath. Many suppliers do 22 gauge aluminium at about £70 per 8'x4' sheet. You will need a ply layer underneath but 3 mm will do. Seal the joints with mastic and cover your rivets too. If you want you can paint the roof with a sealant.
The other option which interests me given that I have a 24 foot stretch to cover is fibreglass sheet to go over the ply layer. It comes in a roll. You measure your roof and can then order from the supplier cut to the right length giving a seamless roof. Cost about £10 per metre.

Currently we have the metal and ply option (though there seems to be some kind of filler between the two which i think is polysterne (sp) which i think has sort of collapsed which is causing the dents) So this will need to be replaced but it looks like that the fibreglass option would be a better idea!

Thats a good idea, im just not sure about what you should have and not have in regards to ventilation! To be honest i'd rather get rid of it completely!

you can open the syklight when horses in transit.measure it and you can find them in all sizes you could even make a bigger hole to fit one plus you get light
 
The one piece fibreglass sheet is a good option. I have repaired and replaced a number of roofs. I find Aluminium alloy sheets unrealisticly expensive and have used galvanised sheet to good effect. The key with all these is NOT to use silicone sealant. What you need is a structural adhesive sealant,like Tigerseal or Sikothane. They cost a lot more than silicone sealant, but they work,and last.
 
mike007- Thanks, I think they have previously used a silicone sealant and its about an inch thick between the roof and the edge of the box??? We think it was poorly put together in the first place, just hoping it wont be too expensieve to sort out!

pixi- that would be a better option as the one we currently have is a 'push up' one which when i try and open, comes away from the roof!!??
