Hi, after the devastating theft of my lovely TriStar - see stolen forum for pics, security on it etc. I have managed to find another truck . Deliberately not as nice as the TriStar :( I am looking for recommendations of products to buy or avoid to keep the new one safe.

Thoughts so far, kind local builder has offered his lads to sink metal bollards into concrete in a 3 sided compound with a heavy swing barrier to close the 4th side. Got a lorry wheel clamp.Get a tracker. Found a thatcham approved mega strong bar to lock steering to pedals. Get a full immobiliser on top of the battery isolaters. More CCTV & pir lights. Not to have postcode on roof as thieves can sit on motorway bridges and get your address.smart water?

Neighbour suggested drones with lasers..not 100% sure they were joking..

Have you got an immobiliser fitted? Not exactly failsafe as I think they are the same key fob thing and more to stop the battery draining but would be another deterrant

Take all the fuses out, at least then the lights won't work and, hopefully, it won't start. The lights at least would stop them driving off at night.

Following. Sounds like yours will be like Fort Knox by the time you are finished. So sorry about your lorry. Anything you can do to deter them, particularly obvious things like signs or a notice about security, should help.

Just reading the thread, also getting worried about my lorry, where did u get your pedal to steering wheel lock as can only find pedal locks or steering locks?

Has it got an isolator key? If so take the key out and take it home with you.
If possible don't have it in sight of the road.
Movement alarms both audible and ones linked to your house or phone

Other people can buy isolator keys for few quid, you need to disconnect battery and take another key component out of your engine so the box is not startable!!!

Depends on what isolator system you have. My Lorry isolator requires a proper key similar to the ignition key.

Older lorries pre electronic engine management fitting isolators are pointless you can start one in 15secs(or less) if you know what your doing . proper immobilisers fitted to new trucks are the only real deterrent that will slow them down . If you work on the assumption that if they want it they will have it you have a better outlook. All security methods can be overcome in a very short time if the perpetrator knows anything about trucks.
One of the easiest and time consuming obstacles to a thief is if you drain all the air from the tanks when you park it up as it takes time to charge up enough air to release the brakes from a empty tank plus they cannot just tow it away off your property easily without the engine running for some time

the idea of thieves sitting on motorway bridges is very slim - what chances are there that hours and hours would show up one box The chances of the police helicopter is way higher to find it from the air than thieves on the ground.???

I have my postcodes on my roof of my caravan and horse boxes for about 25 years + and never had a problem and will continue to do so.

Check this page out for ideas and info

if your worried about your post code linking them to your home ( like wind plaits ideas linking to theft )

Most here use the yard post code

use 6 digits of the chassis number as the unique identifier rather than your post code.
