I am thinking of getting myself transport in the new year in the form of a small lorry. My friend at the yard is also thinking of upgrading her trailer to a small lorry too. She suggested that we could buy one together. Therefore instead of having £4k each we could get something for £8k.
In theory sounds ok. We would go halves on all insurance and repairs etc and fill up as used etc.
The only down sides i could see were a) what happens if one of us leaves the yard, b) what if one uses it all the time and the other gets the hump (however we do go to same comps etc mostly)

Just wondered if anyone has done this succesfully or not and can offer advice Pros and Cons please.

Merry Christmas Ho Ho Ho

And of course what happens when you're both out amicably together going to the same comps and you get nicked for being overweight with two on board. Assuming of course by small you mean 3.5 tonnes.

One pony one horse. Would need to check weights etc before confirmed purchase. But we travel currently and are ok on payload. Checked in at the local weigh bridge.
But always good to keep in mind - thanks :)

what if in the unlikely event that you fell out... sorry to say this but what would you do? i think there are many reasons why you shouldnt lorry share but then again you could have a very good lorry sharing experience... food for thought

Why don't you just buy a middle priced one and see how it goes? Two friends of mine successfully shared a lorry for about 3 years and although one didn't use it as much, she didn't mind paying half just for the convenience of having a lorry to use. They split everything down the middle.

When one left the yard, the other bought out her half, so if you get one for £8k then £4k is a lot for one of you to find, whereas if you spent £6k and one of you wanted out, then you only need to find £3k to buy each other out, or you sell it and start again, separately.

It's much more fun going to shows together so I'd give it a go. Have a contingency 'what if' list - what if you both want it on the same day to go different places (hire another one and split cost perhaps), if another friend wants to borrow it, if one uses it considerably more etc.

I think it could work out well.

All good points to consider - had thought about the falling out one.
Like to hear that it does work out too and like the idea of a list (agreed at the beginning etc)
Thanks
