Hi All

I'm booked into for my Cat C training, am putting the Disco on autotrader at the weekend and the trailer on couple of sites, so starting to horsebox hunt.

Would value anyone's opinion on these, I'm looking to spend £7k max, would like 6 ish months MOT and tax, stalled for 3 but to carry 2 big 16.2, day living but don't mind if not done, payload of about 1.5t - 2t or more, prefer Leyland daf or iveco, 1990 onwards, don't want tack lockers in horse compartment, would like min 7'3" headroom.

Price wise I'm looking at boxes from £3k to £7k as the less I spend on box the more I have to do it up/ servicing/ next years plate etc. Ideally I don't want to trawling the counrtyside with mechanic in tow so would like to narrow it down to a couple to visit

i would look at the MAN one its a ex tnt but looks like a wash and a bit of tidying it would be ok ... all the others look like crates to me, hope that helps you need to take someone mecanical with you and give them a good look over good luck ...

75E15 eurocargos are absolute rustbuckets,Cargos ,much as I love them are underpowered and getting very difficult on parts.MANs are in principle the better lorry. But any lorry is only as good as its mechanical condition and maintenance. Always get it checked out by a professional.

Ditto M.

We made an expensive mistake when we bought a lorry... :(

Get copies of the last three or four (or more!) MOTs, also get the actual sheet that shows any advisories on it.

Definately take a mechanic who will get underneath and have a good look and a good poke.

Because our lorry had been MOT'd six weeks prior to us buying it, we thought it was okay. It was an MOT write off a year later due to having very little left in the way of metal work underneath, as well as various other, very expensive, problems.

I never realised there was no much rubbish on the market.

I think I would rather stick to the Disco and trailer than spend the amount of money the sellers are looking at for these. It looks like all of them are at the end of their useful lives.

If they were horses I think you would be looking at them being PTS.

Contrary to the unnecessary remarks made against me before in relation to one of Stacey-Lou's postings about horseboxes - I stick by what I said then - if you want safe and reliable and for it to last for more than a year, you have to pay upwards of £15K for it.
