I posted this in NL but as usual it sank without trace faster than the Titanic. So I am trying in here where I guess someone has a lorry with one fitted - apologies for cross-posting.

I'm about to have to get an immobiliser fitted to my lorry, and figure whilst I'm at it I may as well get a tracker fitted.

Can anyone recommend a tracker company whose service they are happy with please? PM me any to avoid if you don't want to put it on open.

Thanks in advance.

both my lorry and car (Impreza so had to have a tracker fitted to get it insured) are fitted with Tracker UK Ltd systems. Tracker do a lifetime of the vehicle one off payment scheme which is the option I took on the lorry.

Hi, take a look at the Thatcham website - they rate security devices for the insurance industry and if it is acredited by them then chances are your insurance company will give you a discount. I work for a large insurance company and we offer 10% for Thatcham approved devices.

There's a section for the motorist and then you can check for approved systems along with lots of other useful security information.

I found the site quite logical!

However I don't think I will be paying for a tracker - very expensive! You'd be better off secreting a silenced mobile on payg somewhere in the lorry.

But that relies on remembering to charge it etc - plus lots of trackers will hand the info straight over to the police as soon as an unauthorised movement is detected and certified. Yes it's a lot of money...so is the lorry!

I too find the Thatcham site horrible to navigate, took me an age to find the bit about authorised fitters!

Thanks, I've done this, I know I need a Thatcham one - what I was after was recommendations from people about the actual companies which run the subscriptions as after its been installed, I'll be dealing with them direct if you see what I mean (hopefully not for anything other than paying the annual subscription).

Tracker on my lorry is triggered by unauthorised movement (or however you describe it). Definitely works as when lorry was in for service got a call from the tracker company checking I knew the whereabouts of my vehicle.

Cool, thanks! I know we've had a chat about this before but I stupidly chucked the bit of paper I had it written on in the bin!

Be careful about the compatability of a tracker & an immobiliser. t think trackers need a continous power supply, & some immobilisers (mostly the battery isolater types) work by cutting the power!

Ours is a battery tracker form m-power. Was cheaper than getting the one that is attached to the power supply and can be used on other vehicles or tractors when we need to. The one we have you can change the settings to suit us. So if we are away and tracker is on the lorry we can change the settings to alert us every day, every hour, or just when it moves out of the perimiter of our house. When we are away get it sent to the mobile. We can log on from anywhere in the world and see its positioning and if its moving follow its journey to anywhere in the world. The one that is connected to the lorry that we didnt get can alert you when its MOT is due, calculate miles/gallon, etc...

As far as I am aware Tracker UK systems are not up to a high enough standard for most insurance companies to give a discount .Our lorry had a tracker fitted (from tracker UK)and no insurance company would discount the premium.
Just to add if you only want the tracker to get lower insurance it is not cost effective as the tracker will cost more to fit and keep active than any saving in premium. The only people to benefit are the ones in particular post codes were insurance companies insist on it to obtain cover.
