Hi!

I have a 3.5tonne 1994 DAF horsebox can take 2 horses-1200kg payload and also has overcab bed in.

I have had literally everything new done to this box- very solid chassis, had welding done on the steps- all new tyres, new exhaust, new brakes- everything is done With invoice to prove ! Full years mot only had one advisory.
Side ramp, backwards travelling.

starts first time every time.

what would you price this at?

thanks

At that age, around £4k - £5k. I bought a 1994 coachbuilt renault master last year, a good solid workhorse and mechanically sound for its age, mileage 124,000.

Have a look at 3.5 t on ebay for a guide......

I just dold my 3.5t Iveco 2001 coach built lorry for 6.5k

Put 12mths MOT on it (wasnt necessarily required as had extension until jan because of covid, but I wanted it checked for safety regardless) with no advisories

1t payload and weighbridge ticket, internal and reversing camera, Luton, full height wardrobe, locker, bench seat and 2 removable saddle racks. Side ramps, backward facing and starts first time too.

I had approx 1k of welding work done last year and all in for pre MOT and MOT this year was £360 including welding work.

I'm in Scotland and a dealer down south bought it so I'm waiting for it to hit his website for 12k+ once he tarts it up a bit ha ha

I would have said 4k max for a 1994/26yr old box

I'm in South East and have sold two 3.5 over the last 10 years, both for much more money than I expected!

I sold my 1990 lt35 two summers ago, sounded very similar. Very reliable, although only 2months left on MOT and the suspension was due to be given an overhaul. Sold it for 5k. Only sold as was wanting to do much longer journeys (3+ hrs) and a newer box was an easier drive. But I loved that box, and I think gave the horse a better ride then my newer one. It's still being used locally for short journeys by an older lady who had to retire her 40yr old lt35.

For a good reliable box, with no major issues and a good payload, they tend to hit a lower limit around the 4/5k irrespective of age ( so you will get 15-25yr old boxes in the same age bracket) as reliability becomes the thing people look for, rather then cosmetics.

I’d say £4-5000 but I’d want to see a weighbridge certificate. As a buyer I’d be suspect about it having a 1200kg payload as many newer boxes built using lighter materials don’t have that payload although they often put in unnecessary extras in.
