After getting ridiculous quotes on insurance for 4X4's, i'm now looking at getting a van conversion and have been looking at the ones from equi-sport.

I've never really been that keen on these but my budget won't stretch to the larger 3.5ton box type conversions.

Does anyone have one of the van conversions and have any reviews good or bad? How do their horses travel?

It really worries me having the back open but i've seen there is an option to have a part grill put on.

I have a 14.1hh Highland so he's not tall but is wide!

Ive got a 14.2 highland who weightapes at 600kg. Ive got a renault master van conversion with an anti weave grill fitted across the rear partition. He travels really well in it and I absolutely love driving it, easy to park, manouvre and manage on my own. Just watch the payload, mine is 1100kg which is fine for him and me and all our stuff. The centre of gravity is low and I think this gives a much more stable ride (scuse the pun). I really want one of the 3.5 lorries that looks like a little lorry, not a van shape, but like you, couldnt run to the cost. I have had a look in some and there isnt really any more room than in mine and the payload wont be any better. Id say go for it, just make sure you get a well converted one. Oh has fitted day living in the back of ours, running water, a nice bench seat with storage and we carry a camping 2 ring stove, its fab for making a cuppa.

One of my liveries has one, her tb traveled really well in it and the Dales she now has is very happy, I have used it and traveled a few different ponies and a small horse and all have traveled very well, they do sometimes get a little confused when loading the first time or two but once they suss out that you either lead them up on the wrong side or have to duck past them once they are in they are fine.
There is no grill in front of them which is a bit of a concern as I have been involved with rescuing one from a bad situation in a similar box but considering how many are now on the road I think the majority of horses are fine, if it were mine I would get a grill or full partition just in case.

That's great to hear. Thank you. I will certainly go with the grill over the back if I get one. The equisport's have a payload of 1300kgs. I hired an equitrek which was brilliant and roomy but so expensive.
