7'03" is normally sufficient for up to 17hands, I know Bateson trailers have thast height & they say it's suitable for 17h. I would think you would need at least 7'06" to accomodate your horse. If you can find a taller box than that, there are 8' heights out thyere then that would be ideal.

You need to look at the length the horse has too, my lad is 18hh and i had my box made for him. He travels forward and has 10ft nose to tail with the breast bar at 7ft he then has a height of 7ft11 and has a nice amount of room. If he had less length then he would stand taller and therefore would need more height.

Hope that makes sense.

For my 16.2hh I wanted one with a headroom height of at least 7ft 6” & found that if I stood & raised may arms that the tips of my fingers were just about that height. So when I looked at lorries I could reach up & tell on the instant if the headroom was enough also took a tape measure to be sure. I’m sure my current lorry has 8 foot as it is lovely & roomy & carries at 17.22 with LONG neck well.

BUT if you are interested in a lorry get them to run out with a tape and check for you. The amount of wasted journeys I had when I asked about the headroom only to get there & find it was way too low. When I sold my old lorry I actually put the headroom in the advert lol!
