As above! am probably being dramatic but my silly young horse peed me off tonight. i moved the 2 of them at the weekend and now he gas decided that he cant bear to he away from my mare to the point where i took her away and he screamed and screamed and turned into a sweaty mess. bad mum that i am kept her away till he stopped screaming but i felt terrible :-( they are out together at the min but will need to seperate them at some point...i know its only been a couple of days and this is a pointless post but i am scunnered!!!! Any tips on seprrating them even long enough to ride?

My share horse lives with what used to be her foal who is now 8, he is a bit of a monster I must say! Most of it is all front but he often tries to block me from getting to her or charges me (turning just in time the sissy!) and when I do take her out he calls frantically, galloping around the field bucking all over the place! If we are out in the country and she hears him she starts to get nervous and sometimes calls back, often when we are nearly home and she can't get back quick enough, one of the elderly folk who lives behind the field said to me the other day 'Is that one of the horses behind us? The other one goes nuts when you take that one out!' I muttered something about er... sorry about that... separation anxiety :-\

Are there other horses to put him out with? These two are on their own. Hopefully yours will get used to it once she has gone and come back a few times, the younger one does not try to charge me anymore as he knows mother will return, silly thing!

Also if you can separate them just to bring them in for a bit of grooming or something or even feeding for a short time and put them back, then they will get used to the idea that separation is not forever.

Sorry can't be of more help!

I moved my horses in Feb and couldn't separate them even whilst still in each others sight for the first couple of weeks. My older horse would panic as soon as I took the other one through the gate even though there were horses in the field next door. Within a few weeks they are settled into their new home and are perfectly ok to separate long enough to ride. Hopefully yours will also settle with time.

update! 3 weeks later and they are much better wooo! they shout a wee bit but soon settle down i can take one away to ride without too much drama and thankfully no napping. baby horse also happy to go away in hand hacks think he quite likes seeing the world.....phew
