The farmer who supplies my hay is being really slow at delivering it, can i use horsehage for a laminitic with sunk/rotated pedal bones. How long does a bale last? She's a cob on 24hour box rest, having three nets a day xx

until you get your hay get some hi fi lite and use that has a hay replacer very low in calories and you can just put it into a big bucket!

They say it is fine for laminitics but I would be inclined to have a discussion with your vet to be on the safe side. Especially if your horse is recovering from it at the moment. Better be safe than sorry...you may be able to find some of last years hay to tide you over...which would be a safer bet perhaps?

You can soak the haylage to remove the sugars etc. Do it for at least an hour but more preferably overnight. Rinse it with clean water and then feed. That way you can give your horse ad lib fibre without the calories.

The purple and blue horsehages are the only forage my girl can safely eat. She is very insulin resistant and everything else has way too much sugar.

Be careful though - this year's crop hasn't had time to ferment yet and we're having to soak it for 1/2 hour before use to reduce the sugars enough for her.
