We sell Marksway Horsehage and i can tell you its nothing to do with the Feed Merchant putting up the price! Its Marksway that have upped the price, OH phoned to query the increase and was told it was due to the weather, funny how the price never comes down when the weather is good though! My theory is that is Marksway being too greedy by never passing savings down to the consumer. We are limiting the amount of Horsehage we keep now and have brought in a new line called Silvermoor in its place.
I know it's expensive, No I meant with the actual haylage. I bought 10 bales before Blair, 3 of which were mouldy and another 2 the boys are refusing pointblank to eat and 1 had soil through it. It's just far poorer quality than the stuff I bought in April. It's going back to the feedmerchant but just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems. Bought it several times before but it's always been lovely.
I have bought some of this years - it has been good quality but not as good as normal - it seems to be chopped much smaller. I think it is because they have had to cut it later and bale it quicker than usual, so it has had less time to dry out before baling.
I'm having 150 bales delivered tomorrow, so I hope that is okay!
How much are you paying per bale? I managed to get mine for £5.70 based on 150 bales with a bit of shopping around and haggling!
The rep came to see us recently, and assured us that we would be able to sell it at a similar price to the big retailers (Mole Valley and Mole Avon near us). When it came into stock, I found I was paying more for it than Mole Valley were selling it for! And no, the rep coudln't tell me why, and wouldn't do anything about it.
So I won't be stocking it again, will be continuing with Equine H and Devon Haylage instead - they will both replace any problem bales no questions asked!
