Yes you can hire out hirelings, yes they're safe - I worked with a yard who had about 18 and hunt 3 days a week. Your hunt secretary will be able to give you numbers for any hireling yards

I was out for the first time last weekend, both me and GF both had hirelings and they were fantastic, really knew their job and filled us with confidence. Only thing was, when we were stopped and standing around, all the hirelings from the same yard would kind of wander along side each other and park in line, so you could end up rather intimately pressed thigh to thigh with a complete stranger! Great way to meet people though!

Hired one from the Lamacraft family of Exmoor many years ago.

At the time it was the fittest horse I'd ever ridden and the most well mannered. I liked it so much I asked if I could buy the mare, but Mr Lamacraft said "your'e in a long queue of potential buyers"! I could see why. Was a brilliant day

It can be expensive, depends who you want to hunt with.
On Exmoor is very pricey, but they are awesome horses.
Bearing in mind they may well have to put up with some half wit who wants to gallop all day while sitting on them like a sack of spuds they deserve the money (not that the horse gets any!) An NOT saying thats what you're like, Jenbleep!!
Also remember to ask a bit about the horse, its likes/dislikes, makes for a better day for you and them!
