Hello all, hope we're enjoying the sunshine if you have it!
Was just wondering how people found Horselyx? My newbie is only fed hay and grass but I'm tempted to try horselyx alongside! How have people found it? xx

I have used the Mobility one for my 36 year old. He loves it. Get it in a 5kg tub but have considered the large 15kg field bucket version.

Did have one for the ponies too but found couldn't leave it out for them to lick ad lib as it would be gone within a week

They love it.

One down side I found was once the tub gets half empty they all ended up with sticky noses! It does come off easily with a damp sponge but not good for the grey Welshie as she had a stained muzzle for ages.

Messy! My mare manages to get it her ears  but the both love it! I get them the little treat size ones now so they stay cleaner :)

Cop getting stuck in :D

My mares love them. My big mare tries to eat it mind you. and eventually picks it up and throws it over the door haha. I use the garlic one.

My lad has both the Himalayan salt, which is in his stable and the garlic horselyx which he only gets occationally as a treat due to the high sugar content, but he loves both. I can't leave him with the horselyx unattended though because it would be gone in a day as he bites chunks out of it. I think he missed the part where he's actually meant to lick it!!

i use them for the youngster when he needs distracting for farrier or as a treat after he's done some good work and not thrown a single hissyfit:D i wouldn't let any of them have it adlib as they would be molassed to the eyeballs:eek:

We think they are great.
We use them all the time with our broodmares and leqve 2/3 in the field with them 24/7. They do not pig out on them after the first couple of hours.
We have just got a 80kg bucket to put out, hopefully it should last them a good while. We really want to use them in the winter where we winter our mares out but they share the land with sheep so we can't because of the copper. We currently have our thinking caps on as to find a way to have them on the field so the horses can get to them but the sheep can't.

1. Horslyx contains Molasses, isn’t all that sugar bad for my horse?
No! Horses are designed to eat sugar (grass can be 20% sugar) and are therefore efficient at digesting it, as long as the intakes of the sugar are little and often (like when the horse is grazing or when they are licking Horslyx).

You should also consider the types of sugar, treats such as polos and sugar lumps are 100% sugar, made from highly refined pure white sugar granules. Molasses is unrefined and is the same sugar as found in grass and hay.

Horslyx is 33% sugar. The recommended intake of 250g per day provides the same amount of sugar as just 2lbs/1Kg of good hay or 2.5Kg of fresh grass.
The type of sugar and the rate of intake is the key to safety. Like most things, sugar is good in moderation. The central nervous system, including the brain, can only use glucose (the purest form of sugar) as an energy source.

My horses love it diamond actually bites into it i use the respiritory one and original one .

I give them limited access to it diamond covers her self as every time she itches herself or rubs her leg she ends up molasses then rubs me in it i say help I been molassted lmao
I tried other licks and they dont like them

I use them on my mare and she loves them. I think they have more in them in terms of vit and minerls than himalayan salt ones. i dont leave her with it as she has eaten a 15kg one in a week but she has it for about 10 mins after she has been ridden as a treat. I did put one in the lorry once for the long trip to wales but ended up all over the windows, partitions, horse floor.

I bought a horslyx field tub once, and my horse completely obliterated it in just under three days. IMO, they put flavourings in it, so the horse wants to eat it like a treat all of the time, instead of just having it there for them to lick when they feel that they need salt or whatever.

Someting like a reward tub (what I have at the moment, it looks a bit like a horselyx except it's in a big bucket and doesn't really taste of anything special) or one of the big lumps of salt would be a lot cheaper and probably better :)

I bought this when I got my horse the container etc etc cob good doer gone in two days the whole sweet molasses lot! I think it was meant to last a long time!

I would really just buy a mineral lick and put it on a wall in one of those little holders or a rope type salt lick

Mine lives out 24/7 and I just pay £2 for a big salt lump/lick brick and its on the ground, they do herbie menthol or mineral and salt or just salt!

It lasts a few weeks until he stands on it. But much cheaper.........wouldnt bother another gimmick supplement for a pampered pet(boy dont I sound so miserable)!!!Buy something else with the money.

Herbilix is much lower in molasses (10% or less if my memory serves me right) and does not give the horse a sticky nose, but is still very palatable.

They are really messy. The sugar content didn't worry me, as I only offer them it for a restricted period of time, but the mess did bother me - Think of a toddler eating chocolate fudge sauce :D

Thanks for the info guys! My main problem with the Himalayan salt licks is he doesn't entirely know what they're for! He's a baby from Ireland so isn't hugely used to treats, doesn't know what polos or similar are, bless him! He's also very fussy, which is why I was tempted by the Horselyx. What do people think of Rockies? xx

Mine love them and end up with orange noses! I can't leave them with them all the time though because they don't stop eating them and would carry on until it was all gone! So I only feed them as a treat.

As for Rockies, one of mine loves the yellow, he will lick it for ages! Won't touch the other colours though :)

I have given Horselyx to mine, I wouldn't recommend them for anything lam. prone but as long as they are introduced to them slowly I have found the don't eat them non stop, even my pony calls it a day after a little while, greys do get smeared though!!!
