Horses and Electric Cars

Just wondering if anyone has experienced any problems when "silent" electric cars have passed them?

Not riding but I've early been run over by a few, teach me for not looking where I'm going but the damn things are soooo quiet

Back in 2010 there was a report - "Japan's electric cars 'could sound like horses' - The Japanese government is drawing up legislation to make a new generation of electric cars speak, beep or even mimic the sound of galloping horses or running water."

Not sure it ever went anywhere. The suggestion of "galloping horses" could be horrendous when out quiety hacking along a country lane!!!
