I really need advice on this cos i'm totally confused about what to do
I'm starting uni next week, and i now need to decide what to do with my horse :( Been putting this off for a while now cos it's not something i want to think about. Basically he's on DIY livery at a local yard and i'm moving 3 hours away. I can't really afford to have him on full, but i don't want to have to sell him either, as i've only had him for a few months and after a dodgy start we've just started to click and bond. I honestly don't want to loose him, but i have no idea what to do :(

Hugs and hot choc for everyone who helps :)

can you take him with you on DIY? When i was at uni a 100 years ago, my folks had a small holding, so no livery fees - my wonderful Dad looked after him and there was no point taking him with me and having livery bills - I went home every weekend (hated uni!). If it cost to keep him at home DIY, why not take him with you?? Otherwise its loaning out.

have you banged on every door nearby? I have found most of the yards mine are on by being a cheeky mare and asking:D I even left a note through one persons door (I was desperate to get of a horrible yard when i relocated to Suffolk) the very nice chap called me back, unfortunately it was for his wifes horses only, but he was very understandable:)

can you not get friends/ family/ people at the yard to check said horsey in shifts while you find somewhere to keep it?

i managed to leave mine with my parents until i found a yard, and keeping him and being able to bring him up with me was the best decision i made!!

and if people tell you you won't have time to have a horse and do uni- i manage to work full time, do a full time uni course and have my sports horse super fit easily :-) if you want to, you can!!!

did you not consider this before you got him? Dont send him to an equine college. Ive seen many ruined. Either consider loaning him out? Or could just be turned out on grass livery during term time?

Why have you left it so late to decide what to do with him?
How do you expect to find a nearby yard to your Uni or sharer/loaner or even buyer in a week? Madness.

I'm looking for a horse to take on loan and lots of people going off to Uni put their horses out on loan - if you find a good loanee and build up a good relationship you'll still be able to see him loads, or possibly work out an agreement where they have him during term time and you have him during holidays? Just a suggestion :)
