Horses and venues

Just a musing, and wondered if anyone else has experienced this.
I took my horse out yesterday to a venue, and he just could not cope, I have no idea why but it's one of the large venues in the South.
Anyone else have a horse with a venue issue?
He is a well travelled/competed horse but is still young but this reaction was extreme, and now doubting myself, as I don't want to create an issue or let him down.

What was he doing that caused concern and in what way couldn't he cope?
 
I have a couple of venues I don't take my pony to.

One she absolutely hates, and is borderline lethal at. No idea why.

The other she doesn't mind the indoor but hates the outdoor. I know why at this one, so only go to do music tests that I know will be inside.
 
Mine is experienced competing horse and raced for seven years and so has seen a lot but there is a venue he struggles with because there is an on high walkway with glass in front of it and I think the reflection just really worry him although he’s fine with arena mirrors. I’m sure you will but break it down into chunks to try to see what the issue was. I wouldn’t panic and you could potentially perhaps take him there if there’s a clinic or lessons or something to see if you can cope when it’s quieter. I don’t think it is a problem if you need to cross a venue off your list provided he is fine everywhere else
 
Baggs when he was being ridden and we were competing, had a few venues that he was an absolute swine at - I can only surmise that because they were massive venues where lots was going on it simply was too much for him to process. I avoided those venues as I didn't think it fair to make him work through his stress and anxiety for the sake of a rosette. I even got a few friends to take him to see if I were the problem and he was the exact same for them. Other venues however, he was the perfect gentleman and so many people commented on his great manners x

Is your horse used to competing at varying venues or is this something new to them? It could be something as simple as getting out for a few arena hires and seeing how things go from there - but I'd bear in mind that you might possibly have to cross this venue off your list or enlist someone else to take him and see if the same thing happens with them x
 
I couldn't understand why my horse was acting silly at a place we had been to many times before - it turned out that there were some pigs that had arrived in a field next to the lorry park.

Usually the advice is just keep going out.
