Not entirely sure this is in the right place but oh well here goes ...
I am about a 1/3 of the way through my degree in medicine so its a bit of a long way off yet but i have just been musing about when i will be in the best position to buy my first horse what are other peoples experiences of this? Are there any horsey doctors out there :)
I was watching badminton and i swore i heard the commentator saying on of the competitors was a junior doc so maybe it is possible and i won't have to wait til i am a consultant if i ever get that far. Just wondering really but i know i will have to make sacrifices for my chosen career obviously that's if i survive uni :P
Thoughts please :D:D
nutella on toast a brocken playstation and my OH (will do housework) who i need out from under my feet on offer :P

You can bet that if you heard correctly, that Junior Doctor (who was riding around Badminton), has plenty of family money and can keep the horse on a professional yard, where they keep it fit and well schooled, while he continues to train as a Doctor. The likelyhood of being able to ride at that level while working/studying full time without "having money", is remote.

I know its not quite the same, but im studying (soon to be a 4th year) speech ad language therapy and i was thinking the same as you about 2 years ago. So i bought a horse. Now i have 2.....

I found having horses at uni amazing. But i have to say, your degree suffers. I made this choice as i think that when you have a job, especially a demanding job, and kids, and a hubby, when the hell are you going to have time in your life for a pony. I have to say, i dont think you can do everything.

My choice is going to be a rich OH, so i can work part time, have kids, and horses ;)

Good luck though :)

I'm currently very junior in my chosen career and earning a dire wage, yet I have a horse on DIY livery :D not sure how this is going to work when I start studying (I'm training to be an accountant) I guess I'll have to spend less time on internet forums! :D

So I'm going to be combining full time work, a horse on DIY with studying for a degree up to master's level in my 'spare' time.

*gulp*

My mother had several horses whilst working as a GP and having children, so it can be done! She did get a sharer for a while though, and when I was old enough we shared horses.

ETA: by the way, I'm a musician, and if a muso can afford a horse anyone can :D

don't worry i have no badminton aspirations far to much of a wuss just a normal wee pony to do average things with never thought it would be a possibility.
Do you think i should start saving now.

Good luck with your degree also sounds like a plan :P will have to pick out prospective doctors as husbands not sure OH would agree but he is a poor outdoor instructor. Atm i am getting my horsey fix sharing/exercising anything offered so my degree is safe i think it helps with the sanity.
