Having a really, really poopy time at the moment . . . mega-rubbish. Went up to the yard this morning in the mind to have a good cry . . . in the end I decided to tack up my boy and go in the school. First proper ride for a while due to my broken seatbones (courtesy of the Greydonkey) - I've had a few little sits but not really had a proper schooling session.

Should add that a lovely yardmate has been schooling him/playing with him while I recover.

Well . . . he sooooo put a smile on my face. Soft, willing, responsive to my leg, mouthing the bit . . . I was on cloud nine.

Big thanks to Z for doing such amazing things with my stroppy grey boy . . . and even bigger thanks to KaliBear for putting a smile on my face today . . .

So . . . what soppy moments have you had with your horses?

Am on a ***** yard at the moment from the point of view of people being two faced/interfering/cliquey and gossiping. (Not used to this as did have my own place and then spent years with a local farmer as the sole livery.)

However, ned LOVES his stable.....it's ginormous and has two windows. He is sooo happy that it makes up for all the other crap. He spends all the time he is stabled leaning out of the back window watching the world go by. He has good grazing companions too. I hate going there, but as soon as I walk in his stable and he tells me how good things are then I can put up with it.

When I rub Fred on the forehead where he has two whirls and he drops his head, closes his eyes and sighs. Or when I first see him and he snuffles my stomach....I had surgery in June and the incision in my belly button still hasn't healed, he always snuffles it as if to say 'Haven't you got this sorted yet?'

Most touching thing was the other day when I'd just dismounted and a young child (must have been 4?) wandered over from her pony/mum and asked if she could stroke the big horsey, I said I wasn't so sure as he is awfully big and hasn't met many little people.....he then stood stock still, lowered his head and reached out past me with his nose and let her stroke him. I don't think he would have ever seen such a little person in his life in racing, but he was so gentle you'd never know. Just for the record I usually warn all small children away just in case but he had other ideas! Really made me melt, and I don't even like children!!

PS: I've suffered from severe depression since my time in the Navy but Fred keeps me going, horses are very good for the soul. Without him (and my OH) I can honestly say I don't think I would be here. When I'm down he cheers me up and when I'm angry or grouchy he forgives me, not many humans would do that!
