My mare has been out of work for about 3 weeks (twisted pelvis) bringing her back into work now back woman told me to do 3 days of hacking on a loose rein (easier said than done on a 16hh TBxID thats mental) did that and went into the indoor for some schooling got on and she was fine and went to the bottom of the school where there is a little gate everythings normal. Then Tabby sees 4 horse-eating CHICKENS! she stands staring and snorting at them for 5 mins whilst im on top laughing then everytime we went past the gate she is snorting and looking at them! She is 19 so should be sensible but acts like she is about 4!
Just wondering if you have had any scary horse-eating animals meet you on a hack etc?

Mine just hate people. He snorts at them even if they are walking, jogging or on bikes. Tractors, HGV lorrys he's fine with. We had great fun last week with all the back packers :-)

A horse I used to share several years ago HATED donkeys!
He was such a laid back chap, bombproof in any way but god help you if a donkey was around.....made life very difficult at shows when the ring was spit, equitation in one half and a donkey class in the other.

We met a pony-eating-lamb on Monday.

We always go to see the lambs in the lambing shed on the way from the school to the stable and on Monday they were looking really cute so I decided to take a picture of them. I let go of the reins, had my feet out of the stirrups and was fiddling with my camera when a lamb jumped right out of the shed and ran underneath Murphy. He was trying to look between his legs to see what was going on, and the lamb had positioned itself exactly where I would land if I got off.

Lamb then started bleating and charging around underneath his belly, and Murphy started stomping about trying to escape the lamb-monster. I had to grab the reins whilst shoving my camera in my pocket, jump off (avoiding the lamb) and scoop up the lamb!! Once lamb was safely in my arms I couldn't stop laughing, and then had to drag a suspicious pony along with me to return the lamb to the lambing shed.

he likes the lambs, as long as they are not actually skipping and bleating under his belly!! We went to see them a few days later and he was touching noses with them...aaaaw!

I once took my 16.3hh Shire cross on the Burghley sponsored ride. It took ages!
The mice and funny furry creatures wear hob-nail boots and carry coshes to attack him with. The pheasants and other birds were grouping to talk tactics to ambush him.
When we got to the cross country part of the course thats where i got scared. He thought wey-hey jumps!

We were out recently and came across a couple walking, that is quite normal around here, but H stopped dead in his tracks with his ear as pricked up as he could and just started! He would not move an inch for a good couple of minutes, he just stared and tracked the walkers.

What was the trouble? A bright yellow bobble hat one of the walkers was wearing. When we passed them a few minutes later, he was still staring , even at a trot!

We once met an injured seagull that was flapping (to get away from the horses) in a field a good 15ft away from the road. Obviously a horse eating lion in disguise- we had to bolt for home!

We have a yard cat that has on two occasions terrified my mare so much she has bolted across the school.

I wouldn't mind but the last yard we wre at had loads of cats and she never blinked an eye at them.

But this one is black and white so.......
