Our two are still on holiday, staying with a friend of my OH. Due to the return of the sun to this part of the world, my OH moved them to a larger paddock, which has some shaded areas but also young trees planted. My boy needs a grazing muzzle on at this time of year and given the size of the new paddock, and the trees, my OH put a muzzle on her mare too.
Today we got back from our ride and the land owner, his son, his wife (who is learning to ride), her sister and husband are all sitting on some picnic benches at the top of the paddock when we get back.
Suitably groomed and fed (the horses, not the OH and I), we put the horses into the paddock and went to chat. With that our mare walks over to a shrub, only six feet from the group and starts to eat it
Even with the muzzle on she was doing a pretty good job of destroying the thing. Oh dear! Everyone is laughing and we move her away, but after a minute she returns to continue. We ended up tying a big trug bucket over the shrub.
So, mare pushes off and my gelding wanders up for a fuss and then wanders off to nosh nearby, as he is a very sociable type and rather likes being near people. I have my back to him, talking to our landlord and family, when I notice a couple of glances in his direction from members of the group, and smirks appearing. A quick glance over my shoulder and OH DEAR! You guessed, he is munching away at the grass, showing his appreciation by...ummm extending his manhood to the fullest extent
Don't anyone try to convince me that horses don't have a (base) sense of humour.
