Horses as hobby or more?

I currently have a corporate office job that I hate and spend the days waiting for 5pm when I can go and see my horse.

I'm thinking of a career change as cannot continue wishing the days away like this.

One of my considerations is something like mctimoney chiro, massage or saddle fitting (all obviously long term plans).

However, seeing my horse at the end of the day is currently my escape after a hard days work and I wonder for those who work with horses in some capacity whether that stops being so therapeutic if the whole day has been somewhat horse related?

Another aspect I wonder about is at the moment I have the money, if not the time !, to at least keep my horse even if not a lot for extras like clinics. If I change jobs I will unlikely earn a lot more than I do now and I wonder if I will begin to regret not having the finances to compete more and spend more on horses as a hobby.

I'm interested to hear if anyone has started to work with horses and kept it as a hobby?

if you hate your job then absolutely, do something else. Life is too precious to waste.
However, if you're interested in mcTimoney or similar, why not do it to enhance your knowledge and maybe start off doing it in the evenings/weekends when most owners are around and see if you could develop it further.

Bowen/shiatsu massage type stuff would probably be easier to get into than mctimoney (based on the fact I think you have to have some kind of "horsey" degree for this, then followed up with a masters degree.)

I found when I worked on a yard I didn't have as much enthusiasm for my own horses when I'd finished work mucking out and riding all day then had to go do my own.

I worked for the same company for 26 years and for most of that time I hated it and so when they offered voluntary redundancy I jumped at it and changed my career completely, best thing I ever did. Not the same as you I realise as I didn't go to work with horses but if you are truly unhappy in your job go for it, I am sure you will not regret it.

i think its something you have to try.

i worked as a groom on a few different yards for a couple of yards after college and i hated it in the end, i spent all day looking after other peoples horses and them taking priority, then mine always taking a back seat. shes now on part livery and i work in an office and acctually really enjoy the time i spend with her now as am not always in a rush and fitting her in betwen other horses routines. but i do miss riding in saylight and being able to pop in for farrier/dentist ect!
