Horses becoming attached to (to the point of napping towards) humans...

A pony that I ride is very attached to my instructor and the pony naps towards the instructor who is standing in the middle! Very fustrating :o

Eek, I felt horrible horrible doing this, but I ended up threatening with a whip when Jack tried this on.
He was probably only doing it because the rider had been stopping when she got to me to have a chat and he thought I meant 'rest'. At least, that's what I keep telling myself :o

My show horse threw a hunter championship away by deciding he would rather come with me than stand at the top of the line up.

From that day on I had to ask friends to groom for me and I ended up hiding behind wheelie bins and the like at the side of the arena when he was competing.

I produced him from home and he was never looked after by anyone but me. The only time he could not spot me ringside was HOYs but even then I dare not sit near the front.

:) Not really great.

I was teaching my husband to lead Bree today and she kept trying to wander towards me. But he kept her going and later when I was free schooling she wandered over to say hi to him. She just likes to be with someone she knows - there's nothing special about me. :(

Mine used to be crazy attached to the school children that used to pass by his old field I was loaning him from at 3 o'clock every day, to the point where there was no point trying to ride or tack up at that time. Once I was leading him up the other end where I would school, he broke away and ran towards them whinnying and they were shouting 'Horsey! Horsey!' Little scamps! However it was just because he was on his own there and I thought it was sad he didn't have other horses to be attached to, he is spoilt for choice now and doesn't seem as interested in my company anymore but that's ok :-)

Yes my lad gets very jealous, if I hold my OH's hand while hacking, my lads ears goes flat back and he throws his head around, he doesn't do it with anyone else (tested this), he also chases off the mare who loves a fuss.
On the other hand, my OH's TB (RIP) would ignore me and put his head over my OH's shoulder and go to sleep
I treat all horses alike, no treats except an odd sugar free polo in feeds, so no obvious reason for it, some horses are receptive to thought riding and I often look at my lad and think, "God you're gorgeous" so he may pick up on that

Yup! Ned loooves my mother! It all started when she started coming in the school with me when I was trying to train Ned to be alright in there. Perhaps he associates her with feeling safe, since nothing ate him in the school?

When we had a trainer coming in to re-back our lad, we had to stand in the centre initially as his napping towards me/us could turn into a buck, something there has been a massive problem with in the past.

We have never ridden him and it has taken him a long time to trust us after being abused, but we have not done much with him other than look after him. He is good with everybody.

Now...to transfer this to riding..............

All my animals adore my mother in law, I think it is something about her manner with them that they like. She hasn't met the horse yet - it should be interesting.

Bree can be a bit headshot with me - I think I move in a rather brusque way which I'm trying to stop. But hubby can just walk over and rub her ears which she generally hates being touched - think he's inherited something from his mum.
