I got warned by a girl who keeps her horse in Kingsclere, Hants today that some people are on the lerk around the berkshire/hampshire border stealing horses....
they are driving a van and she nearly had her horses stolen out of their field, but a passer by shouted and scared them off - they drove off with the back of the van down!!...apparently they are cutting through bolts and loading up horses in the area....
Another horse was nearly taken in Headley too which is on the Basingstoke road...
Just a warning....

With the horse fairs starting up everyone will need to keep a close eye for anything ify ! We have had 5 attempts to steal our horses over 10 years. The best thing to do is try not to leave headcollars on them.

Change the times you go to see your horses, they may well be watching for a pattern. Also keep a lookout for 'markers' eg plastic bags on fences /gates/ plaits appearing in your horses manes /tails. Spray paint on the road - anything out of the ordinary. And get horses freezemarked. Because this is pretty well the only way others can look out for your horse if they are stolen.
