Horses coming with tack and rugs "expected"?

I see a lot of ads now that after the first "how much" post are always asked "does it come with tack and rugs"

It seems as if this is a normal thing now and it is expected, and if it doesn't it is almost like a rip off.

Would you expect tack and rugs with a horse you were buying?
 
Tack - no. Unless the tack was lovely I wouldn't be interested and even then I would have saddle fit checked first. A rug or two is useful until new owner can get their own. I have a selection of 6'3 and 6'6 rugs, but anything different and I would have to buy some more so an appropriate rug for he time of year of purchase would be nice
 
When I bought Kal, I didn't expect him to come with anything . . . I bought him stable and outdoor rugs, and a headcollar/leadrope (transporter said he had travel boots) . . . was pleasantly surprised to find he came with Thermatex, show fleece, saddle, girth, stirrups/leathers, martingale, bridle, three turnouts, bandages and gamgee, SJ boots (Eskadron no less), poly pad, headcollar and leadrope . . . girl who sold him was going travelling and wasn't planning on buying something else . . . I have always been grateful to her.

I feel a bit mean now! Mine didn't even go with a head collar :p but in fairness, the buyer didn't want anything, but they were offered.
 
I prefer with tack at least, I'd rather pay a few hundred more for the tack that fits it than have to shell out an unknown amount once I've got it.

I sold Barry with tack and rugs. I'm moving house again soon (as I have done annually since 2006. Bloody student!), and from previous experience trying to seel rugs separately isn't worth the bother. I don't want to have to move a pile of stinking rugs around in case I happen to buy another 6'3" in a few years time. I also can't expect my housemates to put up with them! I've kept the new ones he didn't ever wear but I gave her his turnout rugs (offered stable too, but she already had some).

Mine came with wintec saddle, heritage bridle and two amigo rugs - As was discussed also a headcollar and nearly got the very nice leadrope but had already tied one in the lorry :( But owner was selling everything as it was riding school and her mum died of cancer 3 months earlier so she had no use for it :)
 
When I bought my mare, I wasn't expecting to have anything but the horse. The lady said she would come with her turnout rugs as she had no need for them. When she arrived, she was accompanied by a Horseware Rhino Wug, a Shires lightweight turnout, an Amigo fleece, a Zilco endurance bridle complete with her bit and her headcollar and leadrope! I wouldn't expect rugs and tack with a new horse though.
 
It was an effort just to get a headcollar with mine... the seller was a bit put out by the thought! I bought my own, but my friend seemed to think it was an 'unwritten rule' that all horses should be sold with headcollar and leadrope so made the seller give us one.

As for tack and rugs... it's always a nice bonus, but I wouldn't expect it.
 
If horse had a good quality saddle which was a good fit and also suited me, then I'd ask for it as part of the negotiation as i never pay the asked price. my present horse came with a good GP saddle (didn't like his dressage saddle) his bridle and dressage bit (KK) + a turnout rug as I hadn't got anything to fit him. I still negotiated a 20% discount on his price but he was a bit overpriced. i think we were both happy! If they hadn't been willing to add in the extras I would have stuck at £500 less.
 
When we sold penny she went with tack and three rugs, headcolar and roap feed buckets, supplement and full bottle devils relief. Which if I totalled up was probably worth 3/4 of what I sold her for!!! She is a veteran and different size and shape to new horse, so nothing would have fitted sasha. Her new home was more important( old school mate)
 
as I am looking to buy a horse in the near future, a rug and well fitting tack would be a bonus but not essential. IME the tack that had been sold with my previous horses when I was younger didn't fit and so my dad had to buy me new stuff anyway. However, I did sell the new tack and rugs with those horses when they moved on to new homes.
 
P came with M2M Jeffries saddle, Sprenger stirrup irons & leathers, English leather bridle, 2 x numnahs, girth, cooler rug, turn out rug, stable rug & headcollar and leadrope.

It certainly wasn't expected, but very much appreciated :)
 
I never ask, buying all the gear is part of the fun of buying a horse. I remember the first time i bought one and i was so excited to go saddle shopping and measuring up for bits and rugs etc. I feel like we bonded over shopping lol
 
My boy I have now and the one before came with nothing, not even head collars! My mare came with a full wardrobe of rugs, and tack that didn't fit at all!

I don't expect it when buying, but anything (if it fits and is decent) is useful.

I always ask, purely because my budget changes depending on if and what they may come with.
 
Having very recently purchased my new boy, he came with 1 elderly turnout rug and that was it. I would not automatically expect anything to be included but that really helped me as he was a size bigger than my last horse and was the only thing he wore for a while!
 
I prefer mine to come without! None of mine have come with anything at all, I've turned up with a headcollar/leadrope and travel kit, literally handed the horse and away we go! Unless the saddle was one that fitted the horse and suited me perfectly I wouldn't be interested. Tack/rugs I wouldn't turn down, but certainly wouldn't expect and definitely would not pay more for their inclusion.
I have sold one with a saddle (notoriously hard to fit) but that was via separate negotiation. As I was not likely to have one of that size again, I gave them a rug, pony numnah and a pair of his brushing boots too :)
 
The man I bought mine off was retiring from riding - at the grand old age of 83! So, he came with an Albion saddle, bridle, grooming kit, three stable rugs including a thermatex and a canvas turnout rug. He also came with the most important thing - a personalised leather holder for 2 rolls of polos!!
 
i don't expect them and neither do i offer them. i would prefer NOT to get the tack as part of the package anyhow, i would rather buy what i want and know it fits.

i think it is a requierement now to supply a headcollar

I wouldn't expect anything at all, unless it was specified in the advert.

Only one of mine had tack specified in the advert, although he came with everything as his previous owner was not going to get another. With my latest bought horse, I was given a turnout, stable rug and head collar, which I was not expecting. The other, I may have been a bit naive at the time, but brought her rugs for extra, although that was 7 years ago and most of those rugs are still going strong!
 
Harry came with everything his seller had for him; headcollar and a turn out rug. It was a kind gesture and very much appreciated, as I wasn't expecting anything at all.

Bramble, my gift horse... Well, he came with 15 rugs (7 or so of which are now too small, but should fit Harry once he grows a little), 2 bridles, lots of bandages, leg wraps, boots, travel boots, grooming supplies, first aid kit and 2 dustbins of feed. Probably some more that I've forgotten. Was a really nice surprise.

If I was buying a horse, I wouldn't expect tack or rugs, though.
 
I didn't expect it but mine ended up coming with all her rugs, tack, grooming kit, travel boots, spare tack and boots. Unfortunately most of it doesn't fit her (all 6' rugs when shes 6'3), so I ended up having to get her new stuff anyway. Still handy though have lots of spare bits and bobs now :)
 
I wouldn't expect anything. In fact, if they seller has bunged a bit on the price to cover the stuff going with the horse I'd prefer not to have it but have the price reduced. I've rarely got any need for other peoples stuff, I have plenty of stuff of my own and if there's something I dont have but actually need Id prefer to go ahead and buy something suitable that fits in with my tastes and needs, not the past owners.
 
I seem to end up being persuaded to part with rugs, tack etc for no extra money when i have not included them in the sale price and then buying horses that come with nothing...... I just can't bear for a horse to leave me with the worry they may not have what they need. Just a soft touch I guess!
 
13 yrs ago, my horse came with tack, the cheek piece on the bride broke quite quickly, luckily before I got on her! then I found out the saddle had a broken tree and had been pinching her and she had a very sore back! not sure if they used to ride her in it!

so if I was to buy another horse, I would buy all new tack! well I have for my youngster! and after this experience I'd never buy a 2nd hand saddle!
 
My horse came with nothing but a bucking habit ................! I would expect to pay a bit for the tack, not the full market price but something.
 
My beautiful new boy, on full loan, came with a massive wardrobe. Snaffle and double bridle, fab saddle, 9 rugs, 5 sets of bandages, travel boots, turn out boots, the lot. I would have taken him with just a headcollar! The owner is not well off and could have raised a few quid for his kit. He also arrived with a sweet curious adorable attitude!
