horses ear tagged?

anyone seen a horse with a ear tag before? friend has just bought one and trying to find out more info on it?

I know they do it with cows, but never seen it with horses. Might be a good idea though. Maybe they will trial it?

Don't they normally have an ear tag to be passed as OK for human consumption? Lucky horse by the sound of it...

True - my friend has a show quality pigmy goat with a big tear in it's ear that happened the day after getting tagged

My first pony had a torn ear from an ear tag, although this was about twenty odd years ago, plus he was 20 years old at the time! he was a fell pony, but I haven't seen them on horses since

I know a native - may be Fell with a hole in his right ear, left by ear tag.

My friend also owned a fell gelding with an ear tag in his ear....a yellow one if i remember correctly.

Gosh i couldnt think of anything more stupid!!! Ear tagging horses!!!
We have pigs and they dont half make a mess if they get septic, ripped out and caught etc! And if its by means of identity well its fairly simple to remove and replace them!!!
