Have been toying with the idea of potentially moving to Oz at some point in the future - the main thought stopping me at the moment is equine Twiglet

Anyhoo, just wondering about the equestrian scene out there - particularly Sydney or Melbourne.
Does anyone have any experience of it? Are there many livery yards? What are the management routines like (especially considering the hot summers - what about grazing, hay etc)?

Thanks for any info

Hiya Twiglet

I worked for a year at a yard in Sydney called Moore Park Stables. It's within an equestrian centre which holds 4 or 5 livery yards/riding schools all in one area right next to Centennial Park. I started off riding the yard owners show horses and keeping the riding school horses schooled and progressed/got talked into teaching. I loved it and had the time of my life and met the best group of friends.

I was paid well and they offered me a sponsorship but I ended up coming home and never went back out as I kind of fell back into life in Scotland again. If I wasnt' engaged to the love of my life now i'd definitely go back out.

On a working visa (1 year) you are only suppose to work in the same place for up to 3 months. This may have changed now as it was about 3 years ago I was there. I got paid cash in hand so I got to stay for a year.

If you would like to chat about it and for more info PM me.
