Horses feed coming back up?

When I fed my boy tonight I noticed he was coughing a little whilst eating. Pretty much straight after his food started coming back up out of his nose and mouth in a horrible liquid gew and he looked quite distressed. This happened a few days back too but he coughed and spluttered a little and then was ok so I just assumed he had something stuck in his throat and he coughed it back up. But Im more worried now as it has happened again and am concerned there is more to it. Does anyone have any ideas what might cause this to happen?
He is eating readi grass, hi fi original and pasture mix.

It would sound like choke to me, make sure his feed is well watered down even if it looks like soup. I would have his teeth checked and keep an eye on him when he is feeding.

Any other symptoms, such as weight loss?

yeah he has lost some weight and has some bald patches over him too.

If he was mine I would have him checked by the vet.

Sounds like choke - usually caused by a horse bolting his feed, either because they are very hungry or greedy.

If he is also showing signs of weight loss and condition generally perhaps a review by your vet would be a good idea - along with your management.
